18th Annual Orlando Japan Festival | Nov 4
This is one of the largest Japan festivals in Florida. This is the 18th annual.
Admission is FREE!

On stage performances:
- Taiko drumming
Also featuring special guest performer Mr. Yasunori Kimatawe, who is a live Shodo artist. Shodo (or Shuji) is a Japanese form of calligraphy. Mr. Kimata will paint live, using various brush strokes and movements.

Miami Coffee 会話（”kaiwa”): Last Saturday of the month from 3pm – 5pm. This is a conversation group for those wishing to improve their Japanese skills and make new friends in South Florida. Speakers of all skill levels are invited, as well as Japanese natives. No agenda or attendance requirement – just a good attitude and willingness to learn! Usually takes place at Pasion del Cielo, 8915 SW 72nd place, Miami, FL. Location, date, and times may vary, so please keep an eye out on the newsletter for monthly updates.
Nihongo de OK! Feel like your Japanese is rusty? Come out and practice! This Japanese language only conversation group gives an opportunity for people learning Japanese or people who speak it to practice in a live and unscripted context. Like a Japanese Happy Hour! Native speakers are welcome as well.
The only rules:
1) No English allowed by anyone! 2) Have fun!

Have you heard of the Morikami Museum & Japanese Gardens? It’s the only public museum dedicated solely to Japanese Culture, and it’s here in Boca Raton, FL!
Florida JETAA volunteered to help with tabling on SUNDAY, APR. 22 at the annual Hatsume Fair. At their table, they talked about JET, JETAA, and also raised $100 for a Japanese Scholarship Fund with a photo booth! Here are some photos.

We dusted off that Yukata and had some food and drinks near Miracle Mile! Was a great opportunity everyone to show off their style — and also engage and educate the curious passersby about JET and Japan!
10.28 | JET Campout at Kissimmee Prairie Preserve
Group campout at the Kissimmee Prairie preserve. Located about halfway between Orlando and Miami, this state park is one of Florida’s premier locations for stargazing. We hiked 2.5 miles to the primitive campsite.

07/09/17 – 2017 JETAA Tanabata Celebration! Boca Raton, FL
Tanabata is a time for wishes. Who better to share them with than friends? JETAA-FL enjoyed our annual Tanabata Celebration. We reminisced about our wishes and fun times in Japan, and brought some pictures to share! Since we’re far from Japan, we celebrated a bit unusually – by eating delicious shabu-shabu!

Thank you to everyone who attended the 2017 Tampa Natsumatsuri. There were so many vendors, presenters and volunteers who welcomed our community to the festival. Again, it was a successful celebration of Japanese culture on a Florida summer evening.

03/05-06/2016 – 26th Annual Asian Culture Festival (Miami), 10am-6pm
An annual festival at the Fruit and Spice Park celebrating Asian culture. Come enjoy crafts, art, and exotic music and dance, as well as a tasty selection of authentic Eastern cuisine. Some Miami JET Alumni will be sharing information about the JET Program at CGJ Miami’s tent. Showcasing Japan, there will be an origami and shodo corner, an Ikebana demonstration, and taiko perforances!
Admission: $12 per person; Children Ages 6–12: $5
02/27-02/28/2016 – COOL Japan, 12pm-5pm (Miami)
A FREE, family-friendly two-day event dedicated to Japanese Traditional & Pop Culture! Play games or participate in the contests to with prizes, drink tea and listen to J-pop or Taiko drumming. A few members of JETAA in Miami will be running a table on Sunday (02/28) about the JET Program and the awesome JETAA support network!

To celebrate the New Year, Coffee 会話 becomes 飲み(“nomi”)会話 for one day next month! Join us on January 23rd at World of Beer in Downtown Dadeland (near the usual Pasion del Cielo location) for a drink to discuss our wishes and plans for 2016.
