Early August, 2017, alumni from JETAA Chapters from across the nation converged in Washington D.C. at the historic Omni Shoreham Hotel for two special events, NatCon and the JET30 Reunion. Starting on Wednesday, August 2, JETAA delegates attended NatCon sessions which focused on chapter leadership, management and alumni engagement. Then on Friday, August 4, additional alumni arrived, totaling over 200 in attendance, to Natsukashii Hall and adjacent ballroom and patio for events for the following two days. Speakers and panel discussions covered a variety of topics related to JET alumni and our love of Japan, including pop culture, film, education, the Japan and U.S. relationship, the importance of the JET Program and how it has grown and influenced so many over the last 30 years.
Highlights of the weekend included a dinner celebration Friday evening at the Japanese Ambassador’s Residence and a Natsumatsuri on Saturday evening where many attended in yukata, jinbei and happi coats.
