We are pleased to announce the 2015 elections for officer positions. The positions up for election are Vice-President, Secretary, and Webmaster. All positions carry 2-year terms. To learn more about the positions, please click here.

If you are interesting in working more closely with FLJETAA and helping to grow our community, please consider running for a position.  Elections will be held during late-February and another email will confirm the candidates, how to vote, and the voting deadline. To avoid conflicts of interest, the current president, Bahia, who is not running this term will be collecting the nominations and handling the elections.

Nominating Yourself

To run, simply nominate yourself for the position that you are interested by emailing president@floridajetaa.org with a brief 1-2 paragraph bio about yourself and why you’d be a good candidate. Bios are due by February, 15th, 2015 (EXTENDED).

Nominating Others

If you know who someone who would be perfect for a position you may nominate them by emailing their name and the position for which you are nominating them to president@floridajetaa.org. Nominations of others must be received by February 10th, 2015 (EXTENDED), to allow us time to contact the nominee to find out if they will accept the nomination and get their bios by February 10th. Nominees will not be told who nominated them and are free to accept or decline the nomination.

If you have any further questions about elections, please send them to president@floridajetaa.org.

To run for a position and to vote you must be a JET alumni. Friends of JET are not eligible to vote or run for a position.

Do you speak Japanese, but aren’t sure where those other Japanese speakers are hiding? Do you NOT speak Japanese, but are generally interested in learning? Do you also like COFFEE?! Join me in this year’s first South Florida Japanese conversation circle! When I was growing up in Miami, I never met a single Japanese person, much less anyone that spoke Japanese at all. It was no surprise to me, then, that when I returned from Japan this summer it was difficult to meet people with similar interests. The more my friends at Florida JETAA and I discussed it, the more apparent it became that we need to build a community where Japanese natives and South Florida locals can meet and share their interests. This is our opportunity! Join me, Lauren Sorondo, for Coffee会話(kai-wa), a unique opportunity to foster friendship through language learning and cultural discussion.

When? Saturday, January 31st at 3:00pm

Where? Pasion del Cielo Coffee, 8915 Southwest 72nd Place, Kendall, FL (Across from Dadeland mall; parking available in the garage and validation is available in the café.)

Who should come? Ex-JETs, students, 日本人、アメリカ人 , singles, couples, families…YOU!

While this is primarily an opportunity for Japanese language practice, people of all proficiency levels are welcome! We’d love to get a mix of JET Alumni, students, and Japanese natives together, so please tell your friends and contact me at LSorondo1@gmail.com with any questions.
