Postponed – 2018 JET Program Info Session Schedule

Below is a message from the JET Coordinator at the Miami Consulate:

Dear Friends,

We hope that you and your loved ones stayed safe during Hurricane Irma. As you know, many institutions had to close for safety purposes, ourselves included. Due to this disruption, we have had to cancel the 2018 JET Info Sessions from 9/11-9/15. We will be revising our schedule this week, and releasing the new dates as soon as possible. In the meantime, we encourage you to read through the new 2018 JET Program Guidelines at www.jetprogramusa.org.

JET30 + NatCon 2017, Washington D.C.

This early August, alumni from JETAA Chapters from across the nation converged in Washington D.C. at the historic Omni Shoreham Hotel for two special events, NatCon and the JET30 Reunion. Starting on Wednesday, August 2, JETAA delegates attended NatCon sessions which focused on chapter leadership, management and alumni engagement. Then on Friday, August 4, additional alumni arrived, totaling over 200 in attendance, to Natsukashii Hall and adjacent ballroom and patio for events for the following two days. Speakers and panel discussions covered a variety of topics related to JET alumni and our love of Japan, including pop culture, film, education, the Japan and U.S. relationship, the importance of the JET Program and how it has grown and influenced so many over the last 30 years.

Highlights of the weekend included a dinner celebration Friday evening at the Japanese Ambassador’s Residence and a Natsumatsuri on Saturday evening where many attended in yukata, jinbei and happi coats.

Thank you to Joy and Paul Champaloux, Bahia Simons-Lane and Lauren Sorondo for sharing these photos with us.

2017 JET Program Departure!

On Friday evening, we sent off 52 new JET Program participants at a Farewell Reception hosted by the Consulate-General of Japan in Miami. This year’s new group is one of our largest to teach in Japan.

In attendance to say farewell were several of our Florida JETAA board members including Lauren (President/Information Officer), Allan (Vice President), Kyle (Secretary), Wendy (South Florida Region Rep.) and other JET alumni.

Good luck and travel safe! We wish you the experience of a lifetime!
